Radon Monitoring

As a continuing part of the 91¿´Æ¬Íø’s Healthy and Safe Schools Plan, all CSD locations were tested for radon levels.

149 locations were tested.  The results inform us that 147 locations had results below the USEPA Action Level.  Two classrooms in our middle school tested slightly above the EPA recommended action level of 4.0 picocuries per liter, with readings of 4.2 (Light Blue Room) and 4.7 (Dark Blue Room). All other spaces throughout the district tested below the recommended level.

Upon receiving these results, we immediately implemented temporary mitigation measures in the two affected classrooms, including increasing ventilation by opening windows and adding fans. We are also working with professionals to begin permanent mitigation procedures in the coming weeks to ensure radon levels are reduced and maintained well below recommended thresholds.
