Cardinal Families,

I greatly appreciate the enormous show of support for our students and staff at the School Board Meeting last night. The strength of this district and community is how we come together and rally for the betterment of our children. Our Chief Financial Officer, Mrs. Regina Sampson, and I have  to explain how we got into this financial situation and the processes and steps we are taking toward financial stability. If you have any further questions or suggestions that may help the situation, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to working with this great community to find further solutions. Thank you for your continued support.

Hello 91心頭利 parents and patrons:

My name is Dan Wold, and I am your new interim Superintendent of Schools. I am moving to Corbett from the mountains of Northern Nevada, where I served as an assistant principal, principal, and superintendent in two high-performing districts. Prior to serving my communities as an administrator, I was a teacher and coach in Oregon and Washington for two decades.

I was raised in Central Washington, where my parents and grandparents had orchards and vineyards, and where diversity and inclusion were a way of life. I then attended college in Spokane, where I majored in art education and played basketball and track. My wife, Angela, who is also an educator, and I have four children who are healthy, happy, young adults.

More information about me will be shared at the board meeting next Wednesday Aug. 19th, at 7:00pm, and in the district newsletter, but I wanted to let everyone know who that lanky new fella around the neighborhood is. Though I am aware that building relationships with students and community will be challenging during the pandemic, it is still crucial to our mission of connecting, engaging, inspiring and collaborating to support each and every student, and I look forward to getting to know as many of you as I can, as soon as I can.

Dan Wold

Governor Kate Brown announced that students will not return to school campuses this school year.  We want to reaffirm that while campuses may be closed, education continues. We are here to serve you.

The Save Lives, Stay Home order is working. To defeat this pandemic and keep our communities as safe as we can, we must remain vigilant and committed to stopping the spread of COVID-19. That means our school buildings have to stay closed through the end of the academic year.

We acknowledge that distance learning creates hardships for many students, families, and educators – not to mention the stress and anxiety caused by COVID-19 that we are all balancing.  Although we will not physically reconvene again this school year, we want you to know that we are working hard to provide distance learning for each and every student despite the challenges we are all facing during this unprecedented public health crisis. Thank you for your grace and partnership with our educators. Everyday we are celebrating new wins, learning new skills, and getting better at connecting with your family.

Our district will continue to provide nutrition and healthcare resource information to students during the building closure.  All of our resources can be found on this webpage: /covid-19-resources/parent-resources/.

We also know that building closures mean that our students will experience things differently over the next two and half months proms, field trips, graduation and award ceremonies, and simple classroom activities that shape lives will look and be experienced differently.  We are working hard to reimagine and provide these experiences for our students to ensure that students have the opportunity for connections, belonging, and optimism. Our student leaders are participating in these planning and reimagining efforts and their creativity and resiliency are commendable in this time of challenge and uncertainty.   We will share plans for these experiences when they are available.

We know that we are dealing with a never-seen-before health crisis that challenges us all – as parents, educators, caregivers, social workers – to lead in the face of uncertainty and deliver education in new ways. I believe that if families, community partners, and schools work together, we will emerge as a stronger public school system.

Many thanks to you all, Dr. Randy Trani, Superintendent

Staff have been working to launch remote learning for all students beginning tomorrow April 1st. Please make sure your student is checking their Google Classroom, email, and/or Seesaw account as appropriate for their age group.  School administrators and classroom teachers have been, and will continue to push out information regarding the launch of the remote learning platforms tomorrow.

General expectations for all students include:

  • Engage with your online learning daily on school days.
  • Behave respectfully in the online learning environments.
  • Reach out to your teacher if you are having any difficulties accessing the remote learning.

Also, as a reminder, if you are in need of food for students on free and reduced lunch or your family is in need during these trying times reach out to Seth Tucker at  stucker@corbett.k12.or.us to arrange food pickup/delivery.  Free and reduced lunch application information can be located by reaching out to Nikki Hjelm at nhjelm@corbett.k12.or.us

Finally, if you are struggling with internet connectivity issues or are in need of a computing device for your student(s) please contact your building principal or lead teacher.

Thank your all for your patience and grace while we work to provide meaningful educational experiences for your students.  Stay healthy!

Final COVID-19 Update for 3-12-2020 /2020/03/13/final-covid-19-update-for-3-12-2020/ Fri, 13 Mar 2020 19:55:02 +0000 https://csddistrictpnw.wpenginepowered.com/?p=33412 Dear Corbett Families and Staff, Our city, our state, and much of the world are now dealing with an unprecedented...

Dear Corbett Families and Staff,

Our city, our state, and much of the world are now dealing with an unprecedented public health crisis.

Since the COVID-19 coronavirus first emerged in Oregon, we have followed the guidance of our public health agency partners, including Multnomah County and the Oregon Health Authority, in making preventative changes in our schools and programs. As this situation continues to evolve, public health experts now believe the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Portland and Oregon will grow. In addition, we are now experiencing a large number of staff absences, which makes it difficult to effectively operate the school system and causes us concern for our employees and their health. For all these reasons and to best protect our students, employees, and community, we believe it is time for us to act more urgently and more aggressively.

After careful consideration as a district leadership team, consultation with external partners and state agencies, and in addition to tonights latest guidance from Gov. Brown, Corbett will extend spring break, beginning Monday, March 16 with a plan for students to return to schools on Wednesday, April 1 (staff will be expected to return on Monday, March 30, two days earlier). During this time, all school activities, including athletic events and practices, are cancelled. We will assess and confirm or adjust return dates for students and staff, respectively, on Wednesday, March 25.

Starting Monday, March 16, and until we reopen schools on April 1, schools will be closed to students. Education staff and school administrators are also expected to be out of buildings until March 30. Custodial staff will continue to clean schools during the extended break, prioritizing high-touch surfaces in classrooms and common areas.

Schools are essential to communities. We know that extending spring break will cause difficulties for many families who rely on their schools for meals, health care, and a safe place to be during the day. Because of this, we do not take this decision lightly. But we have to be responsible not only as educators and caretakers, but as members of the larger community in which we live and work. Extending spring break is a preventative measure to help slow the rate of spread of coronavirus and, as public health agencies explain, flatten the curve of the viruss impact on our citizens and health care systems. We are also sensitive to the fact that many of our staff are older individuals with whom we share concern for their health and therefore want to limit exposure.

I know this is a major announcement that in many ways is without local precedent. Given the seriousness of the current situation, we firmly believe that this decision is the best one we can make given all available information and keeping the best interests of our students, staff, and community at the center.

Again, we appreciate our fellow school district leaders and colleagues from around the state for their collaboration and thought-partnership during this critical situation.

During the break, we encourage everyone in our community to follow recommended practices by avoiding large gatherings, washing hands frequently, and covering mouths when coughing or sneezing. Those experiencing symptoms of the cold or flu should stay at home until symptom-free for 72 hours. If you are concerned about symptoms, please consult with a doctor.

We will continue to monitor this very dynamic public health situation and will plan to provide an update during the course of this extended break. Thank you for your support and cooperation during this time.

Superintendent, Randy Trani
