In an effort to reduce costs and paper waste, Corbett High School (grades 8-12) will be moving to a paperless system for distributing students’ grade information to parents. Here’s how it will work: At tomorrow’s parent/teacher conferences, Ms. Gibbs and Ms. Childress will be available to assist parents in getting their parentVUE accounts established. Once set up, parentVUE provides real-time access to students’ grade and attendance information on demand. This time around, printed versions of mid term progress reports will be available as needed at the parent/teacher conferences. However, mid term and final grade reports will no longer be mailed via ground mail going forward. Instead, parentVUE will become our primary avenue for transmitting students’ academic information.

If you need help in establishing your parentVUE account, please contact Mr. Pearson (ppearson@corbett.k12.or.us) or Ms. Childress (kchildress@corbett.k12.or.us). If electronic access is not an option and you need for your student’s grade information to be mailed to you, please contact Ms. Gibbs (egibbs@corbett.k12.or.us)

Principal chats have always been one of our favorite opportunities to meet with interested parents to talk about our schools. At the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, we set up two principal chat times each month. The first Thursday of the month was notionally reserved for 10/12 parents while the 4th Thursday of the month was set aside for 8/9 parents. Over the past 4 months we’ve found that that separation of times wasn’t necessary and that, in fact, most parents just continued to attend on the first Thursday of the month as has been the schedule for several years. The principal chat on the 4th Thursday was adding confusion and not much else. Because of these things, we’re going to return to our usual pattern of having HS principal chats on the first Thursday of the month for the remainder of the year. Our next HS principal chat will be at 8 am on February 6th. Of course there’s no need to wait for a principal’s chat. Please feel more than free to contact either Ms. Childress (kchildress@corbett.k12.or.us or [what’s your phone number Kathy?]) or Mr. Pearson (ppearson@corbett.k12.or.us or 503-261-4209) at your convenience for any reason.

Trimester 2 parent conferences will be this Thursday January 30th from 4:30 to 8:00 pm in the high school commons. If you are not able to make that time or if you’d prefer a private conference, please feel free to contact your student’s teachers at any time. First the reminder. Fall 8-12 parent conferences are this Thursday, October 10 in the HS building commons. Next the correction. Due to an oversight on my part, the newsletter mistakenly listed the times for the conferences as 4:30 pm to 7 pm. Actually they run from 4:30 pm to 8 pm. Come by and talk with your student’s teachers, no need to make an appointment. We hope to see many of you there.
